Using Current Technology to Provide Aid in Times of Emergency and Crisis

Using Current Technology to Provide Aid in Times of Emergency and Crisis :

We have so many capabilities being added to our phone – from discovering interesting restaurants around us, reading through the news, to making complex calculations and centering skewed surfaces. But why not use this technology for a higher purpose.

The study linked here suggests at more than three different applications of current technologies to manage crisis events. Other projects, such as Ushahidi (A USAID 2.0 challenge winner) provide a platform for anyone to create such tools for the needs they recognize independently – all for free! This tool was used this year during the aftermath of the Tsunami in Japan.

Imagine how setting accepted standard services for geotagging “safe zones”, sending distress calls, and more, that could be accessed by any individual, as well as aid organisations and used to provide immediate responses and save lives! So long as these tools are not abused, I hope they can help as many people as possible!
